HAITI

United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti. The strong ties between the Methodist Church of Haiti and The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) helped in facilitating the opening of the UMCOR Haiti field office in 2005. 100 percent of Advance gifts made will go to support relief and development efforts due to emergencies in Haiti.

Responding To The Need...
Haiti needs help.  If you can assist... make a check out to GRACE UMC. In the memo section put, UMCOR Advance #418325-Haiti.

UMCOR Website

UMCOR also needs health kits to distribute to Haitian earthquake victims.  Grace families, individuals, youth, children, men, or women can put together kits for about $8-12.  A list in Fellowship Hall describes specific items like soap, hand towels, etc.  You may also donate money to a United Methodist Woman in Fellowship Hall, and the UMW will do the kits.  Bring kits to the office or parlor as soon as possible through February.
50'S BASH FOR LYDIA'S TAILORING CENTRE

HENDERSON SETTLEMENT FEB TOPIC FOR UM MEN
JOIN THE UMM ON FEBRUARY 22ND as they discuss the Henderson Work Camp.  Bill Bassett, Mark Brown, David Brownfield, Kirk Grotenhuis, Larry Raber, Bill White, and Paul Zimmerman will fill us in on their mission trip.  The gang completed 2 projects during the week of September 19, 2009.  The men presented a commemorative plaque honoring Chuck Hefley for his many years of dedicated service to Henderson and missions.  Join us as the men fill in the details on Monday, February 22nd... dinner served at 6:00... presentation at 6:45 P.M.  Call Dan Stout at 452-6350 for dinner reservations.  Ladies, we welcome your attendance.
THE WATER PROJECT
Our kids are working hard to raise money to  sponsor fresh water wells for those in need.  The Water Project has worked mostly to provide water for communities in Africa and India, but now with Haiti suffering the aftermath of such a horrible earthquake, the organization has joined forces with Living Water International to work to reestablish fresh water supplies in that country as well.  If you happen to see one of our kids with a money jug, ask them about it then drop in some spare change.

Remember:

$10=fresh water for one person for ten years!
Our goal is to raise $250 by Easter

FILL YELLOW BAGS FOR LOCAL MISSIONS
Many of you have probably seen the numerous articles in the Kokomo paper recently expressing the desperate need for food and other items to help the needy in our community.  Local missions like Kokomo Urban Outreach, Coordinated Assistance Ministries and the Kokomo Rescue Mission.  All are struggling to keep their shelves stocked.  As you shop this week, please consider picking up a few extra items, bring them next week in the yellow bag and place the bag in the parlor.  Things like peanut butter, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, macaroni and cheese and meals in a can like beef stew and chunky soups are all very helpful. Tooth paste and brushes, paper towels, toilet paper and items for personal
hygiene are also needed.

If you have a yellow bag at home that hasn't been used, please bring it back to church, preferable with something in it.  We are starting to run low on bags because many have become unusable.
