August 2010

It’s hard to believe that August is here already. My summer has been busy with preparing for next year’s music programs. Summer is the time to plan, order music, think up new ideas, complete long term projects. So even though we haven’t had rehearsals for our musical groups – I have been busy!

Music has always been such an important way to worship our Lord and from comments I receive from you about our worship services, I know that music is important to you. Perhaps you think of the words of the tune as the offertory is played or you are in awe of the God given talent of a vocalist. Maybe the quiet sounds touch your heart or the majesty of the organ reminds you of how majestic our Lord is. Maybe you feel blessed after you have performed with one of our ensembles or maybe you want your child to learn more about leading
worship through music. Music touches us all!

Children’s Choir – For children K-5. We learn about God through music and will sing 7-8 times a year.

JuBELLation – Handbell choir for youth

For HIM the Handbells Toll – Adult handbell choir. For adults who want to learn about handbells. No musical background necessary.

Vesper Choir – Advanced adult handbell choir. This group plays advanced music for worship as well as outreach programs.

Altar choir – Rehearses Wednesday evening and sings nearly every Sunday.

Choirs will begin again after Labor Day – specific dates and times to come at a later date! If you have an interest in joining a choir, contact me!

January 2010

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU goes to all who participated in the special advent and Christmas music at Grace. Our worship services have been enhanced by the Vesper Handbell Choir, the Children’s Choir, the Chamber Ensemble and the Gospelaires, as well as the continued offerings from the Altar Choir. In this busy time of the year, we appreciate the extra commitment from these musicians!

Children’s Choir has been growing and having a great time learning about music. Not only do we sing, but we are learning to read music! The children love this and are very good! Beginning Sunday, January 10, choir will be from 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm. This will give us a few more minutes to work on the fundamentals! We will not meet December 27 or January 3. See you next year!

Have you ever wondered how to play handbells. Would you like to try? I’m looking for people to start a new handbell choir. Ability to read music is helpful, but not necessary. Anyone, child to adult who has an interest in playing handbells, please let me know of your interest and I’ll see what I can put together. You can contact me at the church, 457-5329 or at home, 452-3159.
