During the past 20 years United Methodists of Indiana, through Operation Classroom, have:

• Renovated buildings at each school
• Constructed 2 principals' houses
• Constructed 2 walls around schools
• Constructed 4 school buildings
• Started construction of 2 buildings
• Established a library at each school
• Constructed 1 refugee school
• Purchased ground for 2nd refugee school
• Constructed a surgical unit and a post-op ward at Kissy Hospital in Sierra Leone

, and have sent:

• 50 construction teams to Liberia and Sierra Leone
• 2 science seminar teams
• 14 counselor training teams
• 1 discipleship team
• 1 video team
• 3 fact-finding teams
• 28 individuals who served in West Africa from 2 months to 3 years

, and have shipped:

• 34 sealand containers to Liberia with 32,674 boxes of supplies and equipment
• 33 sealand containers to Sierra Leone with 28,926 boxes of supplies and equipment
• 2 sealand containers to the Ivory Coast with 1,334 boxes of supplies

If you guessed Chuck and Shirley Johnson and Mrs. Monteith, you are correct. Chuck Johnson is a former Grace Pastor. Ms. Monteith is the principal of New Works School in Jamaica. Several of Grace Church members met her while on a work camp in Jamaica, and she visited Grace Church in 1996.

Ms. Monteith in the school library,made possible by donation of books from Grace Church.

In a letter, Ms. Monteith said. "The school and surrounding areas have been battered by hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, and Emily and more recently by an earthquake. It is like a famine here as there are no foodstuffs and there is lack of finances. The Government is supplying some free lunches to the students to boost attendance."

Chuck and Shirley recently saw some of the damage and learned first hand of the hardships at the school.
